>> ASK ME WHO I AM << (2020)

In this world, we make the map and navigate its landscape simultaneously; – traveling through a multitude of atmospheres and stories as our characters meet, separate, build, and destroy.

Our compass is listening to ourselves, each other, and the material, as it lives and transforms in the present moment. We listen to what is already there, while giving form to it as it arrives. Guided by both intuition and an extensive, technical study of instant choice-making, we compose, contrast, and compliment the steps suggested by the other. Underneath a challenge there is always support.

We embody the present through movement, music, voice, and poetry. The aim is to abandon borders between genres, merely relying on whatever means it takes to create a certain image or feeling.

Jonathan’s dedicated physical practice allows him not only to move his body with an awareness through space and time beyond the traditional musician role, but also enhances the sense of bodiness in his sound. Anna’s long-standing affinity with musicality enriches her movements with a strong sense of rhythmicity and phrasing, while her background in acapella singing enables her to use her voice as a second instrument.

>> ASK ME WHO I AM << is a performance by ACHE IN THE MARROW.

Anna Heuer Hansen started out with music and singing, transitioned through theatre and new circus, and eventually studied dance in Denmark and Berlin before graduating her BA in contemporary dance from Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen in 2015. Her main focus is improvisation-based work, which she creates and performs in various collaborations.

Individually, they have worked with a host of esteemed improvising artists, such as Katie Duck, Julyen Hamilton, Sharon Smith, Michael Moore, Tristan Honsinger, etc.

Both based in Amsterdam, Jonathan and Anna’s artistic exchange sprouted in February 2019, resulting in a performance practice as well as a poetic writing exchange, each informing the other.
